Bloodwork Services for Pets

Blood testing is a great tool used to diagnose your pet. Without routine blood testing it would be difficult to imagine what is making your pet uncomfortable or to determine if they are healthy. Fort Garry Veterinary Hospital has an in house lab that allows us to carry out various testing. Blood tests help diagnose diseases and conditions such as anemia, diabetes and liver disease.

My pet looks healthy, why do they need blood work done?

  • Blood testing is not only used to diagnose illnesses and conditions. They inform your veterinarian on what the baseline health levels are for your pet. This can help in the future for comparison, if your pet develops any kind of health issues.
  • Another reason why your pet may need blood work done is because some conditions cannot be identified through regular physical evaluation. In the early stages of some underlying conditions, there may not be any signs that can be detected by the naked eye.
  • Blood tests tell veterinarians if your pet will be a good candidate for surgery.
  • Senior pets in particular also require annual blood work to catch early signs of illnesses.
